At IBMA 2005 in Nashville, we had the opportunity to meet Ronnie McCoury of the Del McCoury Bandand visit for a few minutes. We expressed to him that we'd heard these songs from this particular writer, Susan Duffy. We thought her songwriting prowess was exceptional and thought he might like to know about her. We also told him we planned to go ahead and make our own CD one day. His response was, "You ought to do it then!" So we did.
Whether it comes from the cotton fields in the Mississippi Delta or the West Virginia and Kentucky coal mines, when you can "feel" it, that's soul...bluegrass soul. That's what these songs are about, and that's exactly what WILD HARE is about.
With Tim Crouch on fiddle and mandolin along with Randy Kohrs on dobro or "soulbro", as we call it, it was quite a memorable session. The creative ear and exceptional engineering skills of Jon Raney, part of a long line of musical talent (son of Zyndall, and grandson of legendary harmonica player, Wayne Raney, with the Delmore Brothers but a star in his own right) rounded out this as one of the greatest experiences of our musical journey.
We hope you enjoy it, and "Get hopped up on bluegrass!"
Many thanks to all the radio folks for their support of our new project!
